ZSOIE - Zespol Szkol Ogolnoksztalcacych I Ekonomicznych (Poland)

A very important date in the history of the School is September 1, 1976 - the establishment of the Complex of General Education Schools. The School's teaching activities in 1980s were twice highly rated by the Board of Education. The assessment was based on statistical data on the results of maturity examinations and admission of graduates to higher education. The school faced new tasks and problems due to the political and socio-economic situation in the country. The political transformation has had an impact on the whole education system. The activity of the School has been subject to these changes. In 1995 the School adopted a new name: Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Ekonomicznych. There is the high school and there are technical schools: Economy and Informatics Technology. There are employed 65 teachers and staff. There are approximately 400 students. Our school is located in urban-rural county which happens to make local society prejudiced as to whether to choose this school or not. As a comprehensive and vocational school we always have to be a step ahead of other schools and try to convince young people to decide to enrol. Level of education has to be kept high as well as our teaching stuff have to develop new skills and abilities. When preparing for the Erasmus+ school needs have been researched into by the headmistress and representatives of the teaching staff. The team have thoroughly analysed school documents (comprehensive educational plan, personal development program, prevention program) as well as external exams (secondary school final examinations), vocational exams. The team have also taken a deep look at a number of students participating in subjects’ competitions and the results achieved by them.

The aims our schools wants to achieve when participating in this project are: improving language competence in employees, language teachers and other teachers (the emphasis should be put on acquiring language skills necessary for communication in a foreign language; esp. English, which is used by organisations and schools in various countries as well as German, which is essential to us considering our neighbouring countries, which will enable us to organise an exchange for our students or help our teachers to further develop their skills and abilities abroad Experience exchange between teachers concerning pedagogical innovations Improving knowledge of up-to-date multimedia tools Improving knowledge and abilities of school management Making our school Europe-oriented by starting cooperation with schools from other European Union countries Changing traditional teaching methods into more creative ones by using new technologies and innovative teaching methods Openness to Europe by encouraging active participation in social life both locally and on European level. To achieve that our school needs to open to new possibilities offered by European cooperation and Erasmus+ itself. There is a growing need to provide interested students in knowledge about benefits of European Volunteerism, promoting openness and solidarity with those who need help and support. By taking part in this project we also wish to promote multicultural awareness and openness to language variations in our students. This seems a real challenge for every school and we truly want to promote those attitudes in the face of a difficult geopolitical situation in Europe nowadays. Teaching and pedagogy competence improvement in teachers.

Since 1995, the General and Economic Schools Complex has been receiving grants for projects signed by the European Commission, thanks to which teachers and students can participate in many programmes: among others Socrates-Comenius, Leonardo da Vinci, Phare CBC, Robert Bosch Foundation, Polish-German Youth Cooperation. Pupils repeatedly participated in international exchanges with their peers from Germany, Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Hungary, Lithuania, Ukraine, Scotland, Greece and Bulgaria.

The sporting achievements of the School are also well known. For several years now, the School has been ranked first in the Żarski district, and its extracurricular and cultural activities make the School in its city perceived as a centre of cultural animation. The above mentioned advantages of the School's activity became the basis for participation in the ”Schools with smart rules"; competition under the patronage of President Aleksander Kwasniewski, organized by newspaper. The title of the school with smart rules has been awarded since October 2004
